Ansvar names next leader as veteran CEO to depart

Jason Hammond has been appointed CEO at Ansvar as Warren Hutcheon prepares to retire after 12 years.

Mr Hammond, who will begin the role on March 10, has been at QBE for more than two decades, the last five as CEO for Asia in Singapore.

Ansvar – which serves the care, community, faith, education and heritage sectors – says Mr Hammond has expertise in commercial insurance and broker distribution, and aligns with Ansvar’s values.

He “brings a clear commitment” to Ansvar’s mission of supporting organisations that protect vulnerable people and communities, chair Helen Thornton says.

“His leadership approach, purpose-driven mindset and strong commercial acumen make him the right person to guide the next chapter of our strategy,” she added.

“We are confident he will continue to build on our strengths and support our people, partners and customers with stability and ambition.”

A year ago, chief underwriting officer Peter Bailey’s role was expanded to include deputy CEO duties as the insurer overhauled its operating model.

The board says Melbourne-based Mr Hutcheon has made a significant contribution to the insurer and the specialist sectors it serves.

Mr Hammond says he looks forward to “listening, learning and getting to know our people, brokers, customers and partners.

“Ansvar has strong values and deep technical capability, and I am excited to support the team as we continue to strengthen our specialist offering and deliver for the organisations who rely on us.”
