Swiss Re Australia and New Zealand CEO Trent Thomson will become the group’s head of global specialty, based in London, from July 1.

The reinsurer says a replacement ANZ chief will be announced in due course.

Mr Thomson has led the Australian and New Zealand business since November 2022. He has been with Swiss Re for 22 years, joining in 2004 as a casualty underwriter.

Property and casualty reinsurance chief underwriting officer Gianfranco Lot says Mr Thomson “brings the combination of deep underwriting expertise and client understanding … that is required to lead our specialty business forward through increasingly complex risks.

“We are pleased to have been able to appoint an internal leader, which reflects the depth of our talent at Swiss Re.”
