Founder takes the reins again as Javln chief departs

Javln founder Dale Smith will return to the CEO role at the insurtech as David Leach steps down.

Mr Leach has been made CEO at transport technology group Eroad, effective October 12, but will remain a major shareholder in Javln, a spokesperson told insuranceNEWS.com.au.

Mr Smith founded Auckland-based Javln in 2011 and was CEO for more than a decade until Mr Leach took over in 2024. Mr Smith then became chairman.

Javln says its strategy, product road map and customer commitments are unchanged, and Mr Leach “leaves the business in great shape” and will spend coming months working alongside Mr Smith on the handover.

“Thank you, David, for two strong years at the helm. The opportunity in front of us is bigger than it has ever been,” Mr Smith said. “Brokers across ANZ are rethinking how they work, and we’re building the operating system to power that shift. I can’t wait to get stuck in.”

Javln’s platform is designed for brokers, agents, underwriters and insurers, and it counts Trans-West Insurance Brokers and BJS Insurance Group as customers.

The insurtech recently acquired Steadfast’s underwriting policy management platform Technosoft Solutions, including its flagship OfficeTech product, and last year secured a $6 million capital investment.
