Munich Re casualty chief to lead Australasian non-life team

Munich Re chief underwriting officer for casualty Michaela Hannemann has been appointed head of the group’s Australasian non-life business.

Ms Hannemann, who is also head of corporate underwriting for casualty, aviation, marine and legal, will take the new role from May 1.

She replaces Anja Linsmaier, who is returning to the reinsurer’s headquarters in Munich for another leadership position.

Ms Hannemann will move from Munich to Sydney and report to Australasia MD Scott Hawkins.

“With more than 20 years of international insurance and reinsurance experience, Michaela brings deep expertise across underwriting and client management, along with a strong, people-focused leadership style,” the reinsurer said on LinkedIn.

Ms Hannemann joined Munich Re in 2021 as regional head of casualty treaty, based in Singapore and covering Japan, India, South Korea and southeast Asia.

“Since joining Munich Re … she has made a meaningful impact on our business across Asia-Pacific and Europe, and we look forward to her bringing value to our clients in Australia and New Zealand,” the company said.

Mr Hawkins says Ms Hannemann’s “extensive leadership skills, strong international background and broad technical experience are a great fit for our business”. He thanked Ms Linsmaier for her “remarkable leadership” over the past four years.
