‘Shaped by you’: NIBA invites member feedback on code revamp

The National Insurance Brokers Association has launched a member engagement campaign called Your Voice, Your Code.

The program, running until April 2, will include consultation on the proposed revision of the broking code of practice.

NIBA will also host a webinar next week called From Review to Reality: Delivering a Future-Ready Code, and an online member workshop next month.

Independent code reviewer Phil Khoury last year delivered his final report to NIBA, which supported six of his 14 recommendations. The association raised concerns about some others.

“Our next chapter should be shaped by you, our members and code subscribers, who live it every day,” NIBA CEO Richard Klipin said. “The code is how our profession collectively demonstrates its ongoing commitment to self-regulation.

“I invite all members to have their say in the consultation process. Your insight will help ensure the code continues to reflect the highest professional standards and stays fit for purpose in an evolving landscape.”

The consultation will examine how to implement changes and ensure the code remains “practical and workable” across different broking business models, NIBA says.

Members can provide feedback via the NIBA website or by emailing code@niba.com.au.

Consumer advocates, representative organisations, regulators, government bodies and other stakeholders are also invited to provide feedback via email.

“Their perspectives will help ensure the code continues to reflect community expectations, responds to a changing environment and reinforces the trust that underpins the broker–client relationship,” code review committee chair Di Phelan said.
