Code experts to share breach cases at Curium summit

An interactive Is This a Breach? session at next month’s Curium Risk and Compliance Summit will feature real scenarios, live votes and correct answers from decision-makers on the Insurance Brokers Code Compliance Committee.

The top scorer will collect a prize at networking drinks after the event, on September 3 at Sydney Opera House.

Code committee senior manager Daniela Kirchlinde – who will share insights alongside senior analyst Carli Kidd – says every complaint and breach is a signal about how a business is operating.

“Brokers who actively monitor those signals can identify problems early, put things right for clients and strengthen their systems before small issues become bigger ones,” Ms Kirchlinde said.

“Good compliance is not about never making mistakes. It is about how quickly you find them, how openly you respond and what you learn from them.”

Also at the event, National Insurance Brokers Association CEO Richard Klipin will discuss how to build a brokerage of the future.

Other speakers include BAC Insurance Brokers COO Mitchell Lipscombe; Network Insurance House head of risk and compliance Allana Dynon; BMIA Broker Network GM Debbi Thorne; Lloyd’s regulatory and compliance manager Dipali Dongre; Argyle Insurance CEO Matthew Morgan; and Medical Indemnity Protection Society executive Sarah Geistendor.

Curium was crowned insurtech start-up of the year at the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance awards last week.

CEO Tetiana George says compliance has been treated as the industry’s “paperwork problem” for too long.

She says this year’s conference theme of Uncertainty to Confidence came from “watching the same pattern over and over ... They’ve got the manuals, the registers, the frameworks – and then something happens, a complaint blows out or a third party fails, and nobody’s sure the paperwork reflects reality.”

Law firm Clyde & Co is sponsoring the event. Insurance News is media partner and its MD Andrew Silcox will be master of ceremonies.
