Marine insurers group lines up next leader

The International Union of Marine Insurance will make Sean Dalton its next president.

Mr Dalton is the sole nominee and – subject to election on September 23 at the annual conference in Rotterdam – will succeed Frederic Denefle.

He is currently IUMI’s VP and previously chaired the association’s cargo committee. He has also been a member of the union’s policy forum. He is chair of the American Institute of Marine Underwriters and a former chair of the National Cargo Bureau and member of the American Bureau of Shipping.

New York-based Mr Dalton is EVP and head of marine underwriting in North America for Munich Re America.

“It is a tremendous honour to be nominated to serve as president of this 152-year-old association,” he said.

“Marine insurance has always evolved to meet new challenges, but today our industry is navigating an unprecedented combination of geopolitical uncertainty, rapid technological change and the transition to a more sustainable future.

“IUMI has a vital role to play in providing leadership, advocacy, education and a collaborative platform that enables marine insurers to continue supporting and facilitating global trade.”
