Terror pool launches threat assessments
Britain’s government-backed terrorism reinsurer has introduced an online tool to help policyholders assess and manage risk across their property portfolios.
Pool Re CEO Tom Clementi says the Terrorism Risk and Resilience Assessment (TERRA) will raise standards and drive recognition of effective risk management in underwriting discussions.
“The terrorist threat in the UK has been elevated for an extended period, making it all the more important that policyholders have a clear understanding of their current risk exposure,” he said.
“TERRA by Pool Re is designed to give businesses and insurers greater confidence in the resilience measures being implemented, while supporting a more informed approach to risk management across the market.”
The assessments combine guidance from organisations such as the police and the National Protective Security Authority with Pool Re’s own understanding of the intent and capabilities of UK terrorists.
Sites for self-assessment are prioritised from a policyholder’s portfolio based on terrorism threat, and each location’s alignment with best practice guidance is considered before an overall grade is given.
