ARPC flags data and analytics drive in four-year plan

The Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation has outlined key goals for the next four years in its latest corporate plan.

They include delivering efficient, effective and sustainable reinsurance to insurers, and sharing data and insights to support understanding of terrorism and cyclone risk.

“Effective and sustainable public reinsurance remains at the heart of what ARPC does,” corporation CEO Christopher Wallace said.

“Our focus is on ensuring the terrorism and cyclone pools continue to provide certainty to insurers and support the accessibility and affordability of insurance for Australian communities. We also have an opportunity to make greater use of the unique data and insights generated through the pools.

“By strengthening our data and analytics capability, we can deepen understanding of risk and provide better insights to government, industry and other stakeholders to support resilience and mitigation.”

The 2026-30 corporate plan says the cyclone pool has paid more than $1 billion in claims and average home insurance premiums in the highest-risk areas have fallen 37% since the scheme launched in July 2022.

ARPC chair Julie-Anne Schafer said: “As with previous corporate plans, this plan focuses on contributing to the Australian government’s long-standing policy of making insurance as accessible and affordable as possible.”
