SIRA rules out Trinity licence expansion

The NSW State Insurance Regulatory Authority has rejected Trinity Insurance’s application to broaden its workers’ compensation licence to employers in the health and human services sector.

The regulator says it informed the company on February 26 and that “Trinity will retain its existing licence, which remains limited to the Roman Catholic Church and its religious institutions”.

A spokesperson says the regulator “assesses each application on the basis of the facts pertaining to that application against the NSW workers’ compensation legislative framework”.

Employers Mutual Limited created Trinity in 2023 following Catholic Church Insurance’s decision to stop offering workers’ compensation cover in NSW.

EML also owns Hospitality Industry Insurance, which provides specialist workers’ compensation cover for NSW clubs, pubs, cafes and restaurants.
