TAC hands out recovery research grants

The Victorian Transport Accident Commission has awarded nearly $1 million to five health and disability services through its new Best Client Outcomes Grant Program.

The scheme backs research projects that support the recovery and life participation of people injured in road accidents.

This year’s recipients include Alfred Health for research into anxiety on hospital discharge and the effect of psychosocial follow-ups; Murdoch Children’s Research Institute for the creation of tools to improve spinal-cord injury care information; and Epworth HealthCare to develop training for allied health traumatic brain injury rehabilitation.

Funds have also been provided to the Community Doctor and Step 2 Allied Health for work to help injured drivers with anxiety.

Grants range from $50,000 to $200,000 and are available over 24 months.

TAC CEO Tracey Slatter says the program adds to the $1.87 billion of healthcare, recovery support and compensation funded by the commission last year.

“The Best Client Outcomes Grant Program enables us to partner with organisations that are developing new and better ways to support people recovering from road trauma,” she said.

“By investing in research and innovation, we’re helping ensure our clients receive the highest‑quality care now and into the future.”
