Workers’ comp fraudster sentenced
A woman has been found guilty of 10 fraud-related offences after scamming more than $428,000 from the NSW workers’ compensation scheme.
Anita Kaura’s offences, between November 2018 and August 2022, included falsifying statutory declarations to obtain payments, a court found in December.
She was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, to be served through an intensive correction order that requires her to complete 150 hours of community service.
Kaura, who repaid the funds last July, was also ordered to pay $9767 to the Workers Compensation Insurance Fund and $9000 to the State Insurance Regulatory Authority, which prosecuted her case, for professional costs.
SIRA acting executive director for regulatory operations Lauren Sayer said: “Our office is committed to protecting the integrity of the workers’ compensation scheme, ensuring fairness for all.
“Attempts to deceive or commit fraud will be met with decisive action.”
