WFI team ready to ride with Tour de Cure

WFI employees are gearing up for the Tour De Cure’s upcoming Signature Tour, taking on a nine-day bike ride from Canberra to Hobart to support cancer research.

EGM Damien Gallagher, WA state manager Col Tierney, area representative Ben Drummond and regional manager for WFI agency and growth Daniel Cawood will take part in the trek.

The team has raised $16,169, and the tour overall has passed $1.3 million on its way to a $2 million goal.

More than 200 riders are expected to participate in this year’s tour, covering 1400km from Canberra on March 12. The event will provide $10,000 to local cancer charities at each of its stops.

WFI – which is a presenting partner of the tour – will host a community dinner in Ballarat, Victoria, where it will present $10,000 to palliative care charity Shannon’s Bridge.

Mr Gallagher says the tour helps regional communities and addresses systemic issues that contribute to a 13% lower cancer survival rate compared with metropolitan areas.

“When diagnosed with cancer, [people] often must travel far from home to access treatment, away from families and support networks,” he said. “Many also juggle farming and small business responsibilities – the strain is immense.

“Through WFI’s support and participation, we hope to help Tour de Cure get closer to achieving its mission – to cure cancer and change lives.”
