IAG takes stake in modular builder

IAG’s Firemark Ventures has invested in Melbourne modular builder Spacecube after a pilot of its units as claimant accommodation in Victoria after January bushfires.

The structures allow families to remain on their properties while rebuilding.

Jarrod Hill, CEO at the CGU and WFI Insurance brands, says Spacecube’s units could become part of IAG’s disaster responses across regional Australia, and may also be used in urban and commercial applications and extended to New Zealand.

“On‑site solutions can reduce pressure on already stretched local resources,” he said. “Remaining on the land enables people to care for livestock, stay connected to their community, and avoids the disruption of relocation.”

Spacecube’s flat‑pack housing can be assembled in hours. Units can be erected on almost any terrain, connect to existing rainwater and septic systems, and be equipped with solar off‑grid power.

They can be standalone or integrate with partially damaged homes where some rooms remain habitable.

Firemark Ventures partner Scott Gunther says the investment arm’s portfolio now spans prediction, detection, assessment and rapid on‑property recovery.

“These investments strengthen IAG’s ability to anticipate hazards, detect emerging threats, respond decisively and help customers recover faster,” he said.
