Aon doubles up as Queensland crowns top brokers
Two Aon managers have been crowned broker and young broker of the year for Queensland.
Gold Coast-based regional manager Alison Morrissey took the senior prize, while client manager Emily Booth won the young talent category at a gala lunch in Brisbane today, attended by 530 professionals.
The pair now compete for national honours, to be revealed in October at the National Insurance Brokers Association Convention.
They will be up against two other Aon brokers – NSW/ACT winners Debbie Gibson and Laith Parissi – and WA winners Brooke Tarr from KBI and Isabella Moran from Howden. Winners from Victoria/Tasmania will be crowned on Friday, and from SA/NT on July 24, rounding out the 10 regional contenders this year.
Award sponsor CGU says Ms Morrissey “sets a high standard for the profession”, and NIBA CEO Richard Klipin says every 2026 finalist has shown “real commitment to professionalism and to giving back to their community”.
Ms Morrissey – who is part of Aon’s Reconciliation Working Group, which has 40% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employee representation – was shortlisted alongside Kelli Dabelstein of Northern Insurance Solutions and Your Insurance Broker’s Katrina Halliday.
“I’m incredibly grateful to NIBA and CGU for this recognition ... What makes this award particularly meaningful is that it’s not based on revenue or numbers but on what our clients say about us, the work we do as brokers and the impact we have in our communities,” she said.
Brisbane-based Ms Booth – chair of the NIBA young professionals Queensland committee – competed against finalists Amy Smith of Ausure Cairns Insurance Brokers and Matt Wheelahan of Cornerstone Risk Group.
Awards sponsor Vero says Ms Booth brings “strong leadership and a genuine passion for the profession to everything she does. Her innovative thinking and commitment to going the extra mile for her clients set her apart from the field.”
