SA workers’ comp scheme seeks new claims managers

ReturnToWorkSA has launched a tender for workers’ compensation claims management groups to start handling caseloads from July 1 next year.

The move follows the expiry of contracts with EML and Gallagher Bassett.

“During this procurement process, claims management services will continue as normal,” ReturnToWorkSA said. “Our claims agents, GB and EML, remain as the primary contacts for any claim-related queries. An update on the outcome will be provided in early 2027.”

ReturnToWork SA provides worker injury insurance and regulates the SA scheme.

EML and Gallagher Bassett have been providing claims management services since 2006 and 2013 respectively.

The state scheme covers about 646,000 workers, and $865 million in premium revenue was collected from registered businesses in 2024-25.

“Remain at and return to work performance were stable at near-historic highs,” ReturnToWorkSA said in that year’s annual report.

“The profit from insurance operations of $139 million was positively contributed to by continued solid return to work performance.

“The scheme is performing as intended. It is running sustainably … is delivering a consistently competitive average premium rate and is giving injured workers more options for their future.”
