Code committee begins search for new chair
The General Insurance Code Governance Committee is looking for an independent chair to succeed Veronique Ingram at the end of her second term.
The new committee head will take over from July 1 on a three-year term.
“We’re seeking a highly experienced chair or senior governance leader with strong ethical judgment, exceptional communication skills and deep experience working with diverse stakeholders,” the Australian Financial Complaints Authority said.
Candidates with backgrounds in governance, regulation, law, public administration or financial services are encouraged to apply.
Ms Ingram has been chair since 2020. Last year, the committee conducted more than 14 significant breach remediation audits and strengthened its use of sanction powers, including a $100,000 fine against an unnamed insurer and a $30,000 penalty imposed on AIG.
The committee aims to implement an enhanced code by July 2027, improving experiences for vulnerable customers, expanding financial hardship support and introducing stronger commitments on claims handling.
