NRMA Insurance’s Help Fund has announced inaugural grants enabling 23 community groups across the NSW Northern Rivers region to strengthen disaster resilience.

Projects range from emergency communications and disaster preparedness to community connection programs that reduce isolation and build long-term resilience.

The grants are delivered in partnership with the Northern Rivers Community Foundation.

“Northern Rivers communities have endured repeated floods, fires and storms in recent years,” NRMA Insurance EM of community impact and customer advocate Jen Cobley said. “These projects reflect the innovation, leadership and commitment already present across the region.”

One group will use its grant to fund an illuminated windsock, emergency lighting and first aid resources, after helicopters struggled to locate the town’s landing site during recent floods.

Other groups sought support for satellite communications, solar-powered emergency communications systems, radio networks and training. Groups can apply for establishment grants of up to $3000 or resilience action grants of up to $10,000.
