Sportscover celebrates 40th milestone
Specialist sport and leisure underwriting agency Sportscover has marked its 40th anniversary with a celebration at the Melbourne Cricket Ground Olympic Room.
The business, founded by Peter Nash, was established in Melbourne on 22 September 1986, opened a Sydney office in 1993 and expanded into the UK in 1999.
Sportscover says over following decades, it has continued to develop alongside the sport and leisure sectors, adapting to the changing needs of sporting organisations, clubs, associations, participants and events.
The celebration last month brought together clients, partners, athletes, administrators, former employees and current staff and featured a countdown of 40 memorable sporting moments from the past four decades.
Steven Bradbury, whose victory at the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympics was ranked the number one moment, was among the speakers.
Others sharing their experiences included Olympic cyclist Kathy Watt and seven-time world surfing champion Layne Beachley.
Sportscover says issues in the contemporary environment include cyber risk, safeguarding, concussion management, changing participation models, increasingly complex governance and commercial expectations, technology changes, and expanding expectations for sporting organisations, administrators and volunteers.
“However, the importance of understanding the sporting environment itself has not changed,” it says.
